Welcome to Mother Teresa School
Mother Teresa School caters for students from four years of age, where students are enrolled in our Early Learning Centre, to students in Year Six. The school is continuing to expand with each year level having four classes by 2018 while the ELC has five classes, some of which are part time.
As a relatively new school, with the oldest buildings being seven years old, all structures are designed with contemporary teaching philosophy in mind. All classrooms have large breakout spaces so that children can work in small groups or individually. Classrooms are able to be opened so that teachers can work with colleagues. The completion of Stage 5 of the school which houses our Year 5 and Year 6 students was finalised late last year and is now up and running. The upgrade to our Early Learning Centre was also completed ready for the start of the 2016 school year. The school grounds are currently being developed to allow the students to have a safer environment in which to play.
The school has a strong IT focus with students in Years Five and Six using iPads to support their learning through a bring your own device program. All other classes have access to a bank of iPads and laptops.
Mother Teresa School is a Catholic primary school and is part of the Holy Spirit Parish. It is one of four Catholic schools in Gungahlin. The others are Holy Spirit Primary School, Nicholls; Good Shepherd Primary School, Amaroo and St John Paul II College, Nicholls.
Mother Teresa Primary School currently accepts enrolments from the suburbs of Harrison, Gungahlin and Franklin. While the school population is predominantly Catholic the school does accept enquires from families of other faith backgrounds that support our ethos.
Our school motto “do small things with great love” inspires us to care for fellow members of our school community as well as reach out into the wider community. Our mini-Vinnies group drives a lot of the school initiatives in this area.
The school follows the Australian Curriculum with the school’s Religious Education curriculum based on the archdiocesan guidelines ‘Treasures New and Old’. The professional development of staff is given high priority in the school with many staff members attending national and local conferences as well as engaging in professional development within school. Our major focus area at the moment is literacy.
Parents are always welcome, with many parents assisting in a variety of ways. Parents are encouraged to stay in regular contact with the classroom teachers to gauge the progress of their children.
Kidz Biz provides a before and after school care service as well as vacation care. This service is very popular with parents.
